A native of New York (born on Long Island, raised mostly Upstate), born into an unbelieving family, Matt became a Christian in his first year of college as God bore fruit through the faithfulness witness of many Christians friends. Cru (formerly Campus Crusade for Christ) was a fixture in Matt’s life first as a student and then as a staff member. While working for Cru, and in the midst of helping plant a church in Florida, Matt sensed a call to gospel ministry. He acquired a brave wife (Julianne) in 1996 who moved with Matt to seminary in their first month of marriage.

After nearly 6 years in San Diego completing seminary, doing consulting work, and working for a time on the staff of a church, Matt spent nearly 6 years outside of Pittsburgh pastoring a PCA church in need of renewal. Then for 10 years Matt ministered in West Seattle as the pastor of another PCA church that was dying and in need of renewal.

Since 2011, Matt has sensed a further refining in calling to be an agent in the church at large in the US to help struggling pastors and churches. This has led to his current role as Executive Director of Flourish. Flourish exists to free leaders to be effective wherever God has placed them. Flourish does this by taking pastors and other church leaders who feel stuck to come to a point of clarity and hopefulness.

Matt and Julianne are the happy parents of 3 adult young men and a "still keeping us young"  13 year old girl. They live within earshot of moose, elk, deer, mountain lions, turkey, bobcats, bald eagles, ospreys, and a variety of song birds including little woodpeckers. Those woodpeckers are attempting to ruin our investment in a family-sized log cabin on the shores of Lake Coeur d'Alene about two hours south of Canada.
