Pastor Search
From Church Clarity to Pastoral Need
Pastor Search helps a church move from vision clarity to prayerful candidate discernment without turning the call into a beauty pageant. The Session considers the congregation’s health, pain points, commitments, Great Commission direction, gifts, and values. With support from Flourish and - when in place - the Transitional Pastor, these needs are shaped into a Pastor Profile and Lead Pastor Packet that describe the church honestly and help suitable candidates understand its story, calling, and future.
Preparing the Church and Search Committee
Before the search begins, the Session establishes a thoughtful process for forming the Pastor Search Committee. Members apply to serve, are considered in light of the Pastor Profile, and are presented to the congregation for election. The committee then receives training in biblical teamwork, confidentiality, communication, candidate care, and the practical systems needed to manage the search well. Clear roles, shared commitments, and a regular communication rhythm help the committee, Session, and congregation move through the process together.
A Disciplined Path of Candidate Discernment
The Pastor Search Committee evaluates candidates through Flourish’s River and Locks process, moving carefully through a defined series of steps. The committee reviews written materials, sermons, references, interviews, background information, and pastoral assessments while continually returning to the needs named in the Pastor Profile. Committee members pray and discern together, record what they learn, raise questions openly, and communicate clearly with each candidate. This helps the church consider pastoral fit with depth, consistency, and care.
