Resource Highlight: Outgrowing the Ingrown Church

Updated: Feb 10, 2020

Each week, the Flourish team would like to recommend resources that will help you on your journey of Church Renewal. While we don’t endorse every single idea from every single resource we are attempting to cultivate a useful resource list for you.

Resource: Outgrowing the Ingrown Church, by C. John “Jack" Miller Background: Jack Miller was one of the most disruptive Christian leaders of the latter 20th century. As a result of the Lord doing a significant renewal work in his own heart, Jack brought a new dynamic to his teaching as a seminary professor and then later to his founding of the New Life family of churches and the missions agency that is now called Serge.

Take-aways: Is your church consistently seeing unbelievers come to know the Lord? If not, why not? Most of the time, Jack Miller would say that happens because the members of the local church do not view themselves as missionaries. Some times the pastor doesn’t view himself as a missionary either. Be forewarned that this book will be convicting to the typical pastor and Christian. That’s not a bad thing. In fact, it’s likely needed. The emphases of this book have formed the presuppositions and some of the product offerings Flourish provides to its clients.

Source: You can purchase the book in print.

Bonus content: Google Books will allow you read portions of this book so you can try before you buy.
